***Beta release software please treat it as such***
Net-Work Version 4.9ß
This little utility will send I/O to and from your file server at an
alarming rate.
To run it type Net-Work filename.dat where filename.dat is any
output file name. When using it in a multi user environment please
make sure that the file name given is different for each test station.
Syntax for running Net?? filen
NOTE : Output filename must NOT be longer than 6 letters also it may
NOT have an extension
Below is the Beta release history file, for those users who dont
know how many hours of development goes into even the smallest of
programs.
Have fun

Q) Will Net?? damage or delete data on my hard drive ?
A) Net?? writes data just the way you would if you were copying
files therefore no it wont.
Q) Once I have run Net?? I find a whole lot (15) of strange files on
my hard disk, what are these things ?
A) These files are the output files created by Net?? feel free to
delete them.

History :
October 18 1990
V4.9ß
Ok some great new features and a bug fix Net49 now includes speed
specifications and a SHELL to dos, the shell may take a couple of
seconds to execute but still it works. The 400 run time barrier
FIXED, I will however be running it overnight tonight to see if the
16282 barrier has been fixed along with the 400 (Times run) barrier.
Output file size has now been changed, (smaller now = 168 bytes) I
will enlarge it later, to 4k which I believe is a typical packet
size for many networks.
October 17 1990
V4.8ß
After some wide area Official release testing we have decided to go
back to beta versions until all problems are sorted out.
Program still falling over after about 400 runs this will be sorted
out in the next release. I have changed the output file from becoming
to messy, to be piped into a directory (Same name as your output
file) now once the code stops running you are left with one EMPTY
subdirectory which you can then delete. I have decided for the
meantime to leave that directory there in case any one wants to
UNERASE the files and see what kind of output is being sent to them.

V1.01
WHEW !!! Made it Version 1.1 finally released first official release
Enjoy chaps, lets hope your Networks stand up to the heavy load.
September 27 1990
V4.7ß
Now opens and writes to 15 files. Even more % utilization on LAN
I/O files are now 462 bytes each (*15)
September 27 1990
V4.6ß
**IMPORTANT NOTICE IMPORTANT NOTICE**
When specifying an output file it MUST be less than 6 letters long.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
With Version 4.6ß Net?? opens and closed a total of 9 files instead
of one, as the code progresses I will force it to open more.
This will put up your Network utilization LIKE CRAZY
Your output file has now dropped in size to 770 bytes (one or two of
them may be 940 bytes)
September 27 1990
V4.5ß
Added in a second icon (more cosmetic changes) I have not forgotten
those who want to let this file run overnight, still have to sort
out the 16282 barrier.
September 26 1990
V4.4ß
Changed speed icon (cosmetic) oops forgot to display to screen PRESS
Q to Quit ! fixed
September 25 1990
V4.3ß
Renamed *.exe code to be Net??.Exe where ?? is the current version
number. Put in a moving icon and colour this will give a visual
representation of the workstation speed. Also added in ELAPSED TIME
FOR LAST TEST, now FULLY multi user.
Tested under Adv 2.15 Novell Netware from 15 workstations without a
problem. A good tip here when running the code from every work
station EG : Net43 Ian Give the name of the machine as an output
file, from the server it will be interesting to see how fast each
machine accesses the lan. Problem still to be sorted out is that
after 16282 loops the program bombs out. Although the file server
performance only goes up to +/- 40-80 % your disk write pending
shoots up to about 30-40 sometimes higher. (This was on an IBM Model
80 machine.
Official release Version 1.0 should be out within a month or so
V4.2ß
Increased I/O file to be 7.238 k instead of 110 bytes the program
is slower but it works your network harder. Still not 100 % multi
user only two machines at once. Will fix this with next release.
V4.1ß
[REWRITE - Also first Beta Release]
Fixed up multi user problem allowing code to be executed from two
workstations at once.
V3.1σ
Network.tmp grew until it filled up hard drive fixed this problem
Stack problem with multi nesting hopefully got this problem sorted
out by defining stack to 32766
V2.1σ
First alpha release only pushed network to 11% utilization Had to fix
this.
V1.2σ
Code breaking up and re writing it's own source to Network drive !
problem fixed stack size problems
V1.0σ
First release for alpha testers [In House version only]
Code working however a bit raw with next release will have to beef
up lan I/O
